Glowing …

It’s the first Monday of May and that makes it PhotoLyricMonday. The song this week is a favourite of mine. It’s one that just makes me smile whenever I hear it.

The photo for this one was taken inLondon on an evening walk with two wonderful friends. The blurriness was intentional as my old camera was useless at night ( I just got a Sony NEX-5N) but the bokeh effect is perfect for the lyric this week. As for editing, I boosted the saturation and added a black vignette around the edges to block out distracting elements and to bring the focus to the lights of the City. If you look in the background you’ll see ‘Big Ben‘.

As for the song that puts the lyric in PhotoLyric, it comes from Coldplay. This is a band whose music I’ve always appreciated, even if I’ve never quite fallen in love with it. However, this song comes from an album that I do love and it’s the first and only Cold Play album that I own.

I think everyone already has a pretty formed opinion on Coldplay that runs the whole range of possibilities so I think no matter your feelings on the matter, give it a listen and judge it on its own merits :) Do you know what song it is? head over to PhotosLyrics.com to listen and see more PhotoLyricMonday posts.

Going Down

It’s time for another PhotoLyricMonday and the lyric for this one comes from the talented John Mayer.

This photo was taken in the Westminster Tube Station. It was fairly quiet in this part of the station so I was able to grab this photo on the empty down escalator. It was a bit dim in there as I remember and I processed this one to be dark and moody to create a bit of atmosphere as well as to fit with the song this week.

John Mayer is a wonderful song writer and his songs carry a lot of emotion at times. This one is one of those. Admittedly, it’s not the most uplifting tune but it’s a beautiful one and that counts for something (in my defence there’s always DanceFriday which is beyond uplifting).

I first heard this song in 2006 and I’ve loved it ever since. It still hasn’t gotten old for me. Know what it is?

That Sense…

It’s week 3 and I think this week I’ve got something really special. Actually, I don’t think I do, I know I do.

First, the photo. This was snapped on a visit to Slough in England. I layered it with textures in photoshop to give it a feel that I thought fit with the way the song this week moved me. Plus the old look of it fits right in with the poor resolution from my poor little Nikon coolpix point and shoot camera that took these and the other photos so far. I say … use what you got to make the art you want.

But enough about that, on to the lyric and the song and it’s a big one. Brace yourselves because this band Seasfire is truly something special. They’re from Bristol and this song is a game changer. When I first heard it about 4 weeks ago I said to myself, they put more than time and talent into this track, they put a bit of their souls and that is when music really reaches another level. It’s haunting, it’s old, there’s a rawness and it’s full of emotion. In other words, it’s perfect. Remember this name, Seasfire. They are legit and they have something to share with the world.

Alrighty, you may already know this band and know this song, but if you don’t you are in for a treat. Trust me.

Remember, you can follow my PhotosLyrics Pinterest boards for pics of the PhotosLyrics bands  and I’m slowly gathering a playlist of every week. This project is slow going, only once a week but what a week it’s going to be if you take some time out to get to know Seasfire.

Yup, I think that’s what we should do this week and you can start by checking out their facebook band page and their tumblr and their twitter … can you tell I like this band?

Have an amazing week everyone and see you on Friday for the start of DanceFridays!

PhotosLyrics week 2 - The City is My Church

Another week, another photo and lyric combination. We’re into week 2 and this time, we’re in Chicago. This photo was taken about 2 years ago on what might have been the most chilly spring break trip ever! But it was well worth it, beautiful city. I spent so much time with friends just walking around and taking it all in and of course the St. Patricks day parade was pretty cool too. I made this sepia toned to add a bit of depth and moodiness because I think Chicago is like that, old and beautiful with lots of stories to tell.

On to the lyric – the first time I heard this track the first words I understood were,The city is my church and I thought to myself, ‘hmm hold on, this is awesome.’ I had to go back and give it another listen and I loved it. The vocals are pretty soft over a pretty dominating musical accompaniment so it’s hard to catch all the lyrics the first time round … or even the second time really. It’s got a definite 80′s sound going for it and if you don’t know what it is yet or who M83 is, then you need to. I promise the big sound of the track will make you want to put your hands in the air and just have a carefree dance party for the duration. It was a hit in 2011 so you probably know it, but even so … it’s such a treat.

So, here we go this week. Chicago and M83.
How about we all pick a city we’re unfamiliar with and learn one thing about it?
I think I’ll go with …. Oslo. Have a wonderful week!
